After the winning 1st one-dayer by eight wickets in Guwahati. The Men-in-Blue are ready for second ODI. India’s squad for the second ODI against the West Indies has been announced.
Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 150 runs in the first ODI match against West Indies. India skipper Virat Kohli scored a superb century in the first one-dayer. It was his century in 36th ODI. Windies looked a superior team in the first match until the Hit-man Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli made an outstanding partnership to achieve a competitive total of 322.
Virat and Rohit dished out special performances at Guwahati. But their batting display again masked India’s frailties in the middle order. On the eve of 2nd ODI, Kohli had stressed the importance of batting at No.4. He supported Ambati Rayudu to carry out that job for the team yet when Rayudu walked out to bat at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, the destiny of the match had already been fixed. Additionally untested was Rishabh Pant, who was included in the team as a specialist batsman.
Spinners did a great job for India in the 1st ODI, but pacer trio of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed grabbed only three wickets in their allocated quota of 30 overs while going for 209 runs. Kohli needs to continue with these three as there is no other pacer in squad declared for the first two ODIs. Best case scenario, one of the three quick bowlers could be benched for Kuldeep Yadav.
Not many changes are expected in either side. Indian would not want to interfere with the winning combination but one change is expected. Left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav could be included instead of Umesh Yadav if the conditions are helpful for the turn. West Indies could retrieve the same playing XI.
