Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders has decided to separate coach Jacques Kallis and assistant coach Simon Katich. Also, Captain Dinesh Karthik is not in good form. Therefore, it is understood that the team will make a decision within a few days about its future.
Kallis became the chief coach of the Kolkata team in October 2015. He was chosen as a new coach in place of Trevor Bayliss. Bayliss is currently the main coach of the England national team. Since being the Jacques Kallis coach, Kolkata had made a place in the playoff for three consecutive times. But this year, they failed to get a place in the playoffs. Under the guidance of Kallis and Katich, Kolkata has won 32 out of 61 matches.
Two-time winning team CEO Venky Mysore said that Kallis will be a member of the Kolkata team. Although the team has not decided on the future of captain Dinesh Karthik, which was part of the Indian World Cup team. The KKR team was at the fifth place this year. This is the first time in four sessions when his team could not reach the playoffs.
He said, “Kallis has been a part of the Kolkata team’s family for a long time and will always be there. We will discover ways to work with Jacques because we are pushing our vision of establishing the Knight Riders brand as a global brand.”
On being separated from the team, Kallis said passionately, “Since 2011, after spending nine years as a player, mentor and head coach with the team, there is now a chance to find new opportunities. I would like to thank the team owner, management and fellow players for the beautiful memories.”
Team management will soon announce its options. Let us know that Kallis was associated with KKR as a player in 2011 and after that, he was made the head coach of the team in 2015.
